We’ve talked #Protein and #Carbs, now we’re talking #FATS! 👏🏼. This week I plan to break a few topics down into several post, all having to do with Fats... For now, here’s a general synopsis and a list of healthy foods, high in fat!
Fats play huge roles in our bodies! Did you know that Fats are the most energy dense, macro-nutrient!? 😱#socool🤩. Carbs may be our primary source of energy, BUT Fats are our secondary source and actually contain more energy for our bodies per gram, than carbs do, making them crucial for endurance athletes! They do however, take longer for our bodies to break down and digest, so Carbs get into our system a lot quicker, re-fueling our bodies with energy faster, they just aren’t as long lasting as Fats! #funfact (Fats are a kid’s primary source of energy, until they are 14yrs old! So, Momma’s make sure your kiddos/babies are getting lots of healthy fats along with their Proteins and Carbs!) Fats also help form our cell membranes, our brain, our nervous system, they help balance out and make our steroid hormones, sex hormones, etc... Fats also help absorb the fat soluble vitamins A,D,E & K! We need a VARIETY OF GOOD FATS! Our body needs BOTH Saturated and Un-saturated fats! The key is to eat UNPROCESSED FATS, WHOLE FOOD FATS, etc! The LESS processed, the BETTER! The QUALITY of your fats, make a MASSIVE DIFFERENCE to your health! A few examples of healthy fats are... Animal protein, shredded coconut, coconut oil, coconut milk, dark chocolate, whole milk products, butter, almonds, avocado, cashews, peanuts, egg yolk, flax seed, chia seeds, oily fish, pine nuts, walnuts, etc... These are all healthy options of Unsaturated and Saturated, mono-saturated and poly-saturated fats! OUR BODY REQUIRES ALL TYPES OF FATS! THE KEY IS TO EAT THEM IN BALANCE AND FROM WHOLE FOOD SOURCES! Sooooooo😏 Your next grocery shop, I challenge you to buy at least two extra healthy fat sources than you normally do and replace that bag of potato chips in your cart, for a can of cashews, peanuts, almonds or maybe some coconut chips, instead! 😏😉 #youcandoit #fats #macronutrients #foodisenergy #funfact #ourdiet #healthyliving #nutrition #allaboutfats #health
